Once upon a time, two people lived in different galaxies.
One day, the stars aligned and a portal opened between their worlds. They could cross freely to visit each other’s lands, and each was fascinated by what they found there, exploring with curiosity and excitement. The more they discovered, the more interesting it grew.
She loved his mix of quiet sensitivity, pain, maturity and strength. She was amazed by his patience and his strong will to reach his goals. He fought daily, and still he could smile and rise above everything. Sometimes he became like a little boy around her, playful and excited by their new connection. Other times he turned into a kitten, looking at her as if she were a jar of sour cream, wanting to taste her.
All of this happened because she was becoming his home, and he was becoming hers.
They no longer wished to return to their own realms. They wanted to build a home there and stay. But that was impossible. The portal would close one day, and one of them would have to choose.
But in her world, people didn’t wear blurring glasses. She could see everything, and her view was clean and clear. And as time passed, she began to look at his world more careful. She noticed cruel and dirty people there, and she saw that sometimes he was drawn back toward them.
He began to deny that her beautiful, clean world even existed, because he couldn’t see its beauty. He was still wearing his glasses. She asked him to take them off, but he had worn them for too long, and removing them hurt. The people of his world also told him you couldn’t live without the glasses: the light might blind you, the pain would be too great, and you might not survive. So he grew afraid.
She couldn’t force him. In her land, the first rule was love and the second was freedom. So she loved him with all her heart. She believed the power of love could overcome anything, and that when he finally felt the pain of removing the glasses, her love would help him heal.
But the portal was slowly beginning to close. He left. She waited at the portal for him to come back, but he didn’t. She called his name. He didn’t come.
She decided to enter his world and bring him.
People whispered behind her back. They began to plot how to get rid of her. She heard them, but she paid them no mind. All she wanted was him. She found him and asked again to remove the glasses.
He lifted them slightly, at an angle, but then he became frightened and put them back. She waited. The people around them laughed at her, but she didn’t care. She came back every day to sit beside him, bringing a small piece of her world and her love, trying to convince him. But every day he moved further from her, into the shadowy corners of his land. She saw it, yet she kept fighting, hoping he would understand if she just kept loving him.
She gave him space. She told him he needed time to think and decide. But she couldn’t stay away for long. The portal was shrinking every day.
One day, she decided to make one final attempt. She would break all the rules for him and prove her love completely, to the very last minute. So she crossed into his world one last time and begged him to remove the glasses and come to her realm. But every day he had felt safer in his dark corners. He believed he had found his peace.
So he threw her out, kicking her, surrounded by his friends.
She departed half dead, crawling, devastated, barely squeezing through the almost-closed portal.
Back in her world, she had to pretend to be happy and calm so that no one would find out what had happened, or that she had broken the rules. She smiled through the pain and went on with her life as if nothing had happened. At night, she hid under her blanket and cried until she fell asleep.
And the portal closed forever.
Once upon a time, two stars from different galaxies met.
But they had to part, because they were destroying each other.
